My Story

ABOUT ME
Hello!I'm Paul WeberA master’s student in marine biology at the University of Bremen in Germany, driven by a passion for exploring and documenting the natural world I encounter. My journey as a wildlife enthusiast truly took shape during my three years in Australia, where I immersed myself in both marine and terrestrial environments. From vast coral reefs to rugged bushland and vast tropical rainforests, Australia’s diverse ecosystems offered endless inspiration and sparked my deep appreciation for nature’s wonders. When I’m not studying marine ecosystems, I’m often outdoors, camera in hand, capturing moments that celebrate the intricate beauty of the wild.

From land to sea and back

My fascination with underwater life began at Western Australia’s Ningaloo Reef. This remarkable marine sanctuary opened my eyes to a vibrant world just beneath the surface, leading me to take up natural sciences, scuba diving and eventually underwater photography. These early dives laid the foundation for my photography style, as I learned to capture the surreal serenity of marine life with a focus on macro subjects. A six-month internship on a Tuscan island further honed my skills, blending environmental education and research with countless dives that deepened both my knowledge and my portfolio. Underwater photography has since become a core part of my life, allowing me to document ecosystems and species that remain unseen by most.

A trip of a lifetime

In February 2024, I embarked on the adventure of a lifetime: a three-week expedition to Antarctica aboard a French icebreaker. This journey allowed me to experience the stark, untouched landscapes of the southernmost continent and connect with scientists aboard a French research vessel. I volunteered for an Australian research institution, gaining insights into research methods onboard and the resilience of wildlife in such extreme conditions. One of the highlights was photographing a bustling colony of Adélie penguins—a dream come true for any wildlife photographer. This transformative journey was not only a photographic treasure trove but also a humbling reminder of nature’s grandeur.
